Teaching Artist, Andre LeRoy Davis, is available for a 14 week painting residency with seniors and/or children. He is adept and experienced at providing programming from across all artistic disciplines throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and The Bronx, visual arts specifically painting, offers unique benefits to the participants. Whether picking up a paintbrush for the first time, finding an opportunity to share an unknown skill with their friends, or revisiting a past hobby from decades before, having an opportunity to express oneself creatively motivates brain activity, social development and communication in each participant. There are also physical health benefits, as noted by a participating senior at The Van Dyke II Senior Center…“This helps with the dexterity in my hands, helping to keep me limber! It is really important for my arthritis!”
While conducting the classes and workshops it offers insight into the individual needs of each participant, including varied levels of skill, dexterity, confidence, experience, language comprehension, vision and special needs.
All classes are designed to account for the individuals varied abilities and needs in all groups whether it is arthritis, dementia, depression or Alzheimer’s.
The 2 hour sessions are developed by Mr. Davis to build in success for each participant, facilitated by step by step instructions, the display of examples, and individualized assistance to ensure the understanding of each skill, from holding the brush properly, to brushstroke to color mixing.
The program costs $230/week (all workshops cost $115/hour, with a minimum booking of 2 hours/day). This cost includes a screened and vetted Teaching Artist, all materials and supplies necessary for programming, technical assistance and administration of the program.
